We work as a team at Rubber Soul, operating to British Surfing Association guidelines.

The biggest change we have noticed the past couple of seasons is that Surfing is a year-round sport for people just starting out, it's no longer just seasonal. The other change is the amount of women that have taken up Surfing. 55% of the women who Surf have started in the last 24 months! 27% of all the Surfers in the water are now female. So don't be shy! Our Instructors would love to help you get started and build that relationship for years to come. The art of Surfing is an on going experience that promotes health and fun for all ages.

At Rubber Soul we aim to please, if you would like to have a sessions in very small / flat surf to gain experience in Surfboard control, Duck Diving and Paddling techniques – please state this when booking.

How many lessons will you need?
We have a near perfect record for getting you up and riding quickly on the first lesson.
Generally people like to come and have up to four lessons before they feel comfortable hiring equipment on their own. Ask your instructor which route is best for you!

Can anybody learn to Surf?
Anyone with a bit of fitness, desire and flexibility.
Beginner Surfing Lessons are conducted in shallow water ( feet on the bottom, you don't have to paddle out)

We offer two main categories of session, Group sessions and Private sessions.

Taster Session - For All Abilities
Okay, you have seen Big Wednesday, Point Break or Riding Giants and have always wanted to get your hair wet in the Surf. This session is for you. No prior experience required, get suited , pick up your stick and catch a wave. SMILES GUARANTEED

Improver - Ability Level 2
Rubber Soul Improver sessions will take you to the next level, we focus on your individual requirements in this session, helping you nail ask bad habits you have picked up.
£30pp (equipment free)

Developer - Ability Level 4
You have mastered the take off, can paddle out the back and have had a crack at surfing Green waves, this is the session for you. Even if you can't do all of the above , we can help you out with the rest. Developer sessions also include paddling out in rips and duck dive training.

Full Day Course - For All Abilities
Busy schedule? Short of time? This is the course for you, a full day of surfing action guaranteed, you will participate in two 2 hour sessions, contact our staff for more details. £60 per person (equipment FREE)

Fast Track Courses - For All Abilities
Fast Track courses are our best selling course by far, you learn how to surf over a two to four week period, or to suit your schedule. Rubber Soul dedicates one of our team to your surfing development, the same instructor takes all four of your sessions. The best way we know how to guarantee your success in the water. You will not be disappointed

Full Board Residential Courses
Rubber Soul can now offer you a the full residential package, you will be picked up from Newcastle Airport or Station, alternativeily just turn up in you own transport. Welcomed by the Rubber Soul Team & taken to ‘ The Park Hotel Tynemouth', your home for the next few days or week. Get a good nights sleep, okay a few beers are allowed, we may even join you ! The next weeks course will be action packed. You will be surfing every day, ever tried Wakeboarding or Jet Ski ing ? this is all part of our package.
Prices from £280 pp.

Registration for all lessons is daily at 09.30am and 1.15pm at our surf school trailer on Longsands beach. Lessons start at 10am and 2pm and are for approx 2 hrs, all equipment is provided free. Please note that if the surf school has to move to a different location we do not provide transport. Lessons run from March - October and advance bookings are highly recommended to guarantee availability. To book a lesson use the contact us form. We have a variety of courses available to suit the different ability levels. Either take a single lesson or enrol on one of our very popular Fast Track courses. When you take a lesson with us you will learn new skills helping you to progress to a much happier and less frustrated surfer. We aim to make your surfing experience great fun and memorable as well as provide you with skills to enjoy this fantastic sport.
